Leading efforts toward a more sustainable Indonesia

Nordic businesses and government’s share a vision to advance sustainability actions across Indonesia. Taking a leading role in these efforts, NordCham launched its Sustainability Committee at the Embassy of Finland in Indonesia on November 30, 2022.

Having previously met virtually, NordCham officially launched the committee with an in-person event that formalised actions to support the Government of Indonesia achieve it’s United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Sustainability Committee concluded by determining it’s focus aspects; Circular Economy, Decarbonization and Renewable Energy, and Waste Management.

Presentations were also conducted by Dr. Christiaan Röell from the University of Sheffield, discussing “How Multi-National Enterprises engage the Government of Indonesia: The role of the UN SDGs”, and Greg Arnold from Vriens & Partners who presented “Engaging as a Chamber”. These useful analyses provided NordCham member’s with further context on the ability of the committee to effect change, and how Nordic businesses can play a key role.

The launch was well-attended by representatives of Nordic companies operating, along with diplomatic staff from the Embassies of Finland, Sweden, and Denmark in Jakarta. H&M’s Stakeholder Engagement and Public Affairs Manager Anya Saphira was elected Deputy Chair & interim Chair of the committee.
